Your guide to e-learning

Atos Origin - Medical Services

Atos Origin employs 2500 contracted doctors within its Medical Services Group. The organisation identified a critical need for verifiable training and development to ensure consistency in the way medical examinations are undertaken by doctors.

Atos Origin recognised the importance of ensuring the training was coherent and logically structured. It was also acknowledged that easy access to a repository of information for future reference and the opportunity for the doctors to test their own understanding was vital to this programme. Although the medical world is not, historically, a front-line IT-related profession, the need for consistency of information within the training was essential. E-learning was the obvious solution.

A modular programme of scenario based training exercises was developed on CD-ROM and a copy distributed to every doctor with clear and unambiguous instructions for use. The provision of the CD-ROM gives the doctors the opportunity to take the training in their own time, whether at work or at home.

Throughout the course, the innovative and engaging material is interspersed with self-assessment opportunities which allow the doctors to test and measure their own understanding.

On completion of the training the doctors are presented with a consolidation test. The user is required to access the test via a login procedure to enable tracking of the final results. The test allows a maximum of 3 attempts; on the first two attempts, if the pass mark is not achieved, the user will be given feedback on their performance, and invited to re-take the test. If the user fails the test on the third attempt, re-access to the test is denied and the user is referred to their manager. On completion, the test produces an encrypted result that indicates the user’s score.
