Within Schlumberger it is recognised that a key to effective and efficient delivery of services is our internal systems. Furthermore, threats to the integrity of our IT infrastructure and the intellectual capital stored therein can diminish competitive advantage and/or adversely affect future business operations.
There was no assurance that all employees who have access to core IT systems had undergone requisite training and learned essential elements required to undertake their role effectively and efficiently within a secure environment. For the programme as a whole, a ‘blended’ approach was adopted, however, by developing an on-line solution we are able to deliver a core training programme to all areas of the business world wide in a cost effective and consistent manner.
By training all employees we have been able to raise the awareness, knowledge and efficiency of our users in their utilisation of computers and of the basic tools and services available in the Schlumberger environment. This has allowed us to develop:
- Effective and efficient users of on-line systems
- Common standards and consistent good practice across the whole organisation
- Improved knowledge management.
We have now implemented this globally and have linked individual unique identifiers within the HR system. All employees have had to pass the test to gain access to IT and this is renewed on a yearly basis.
